Founder Brigitte Denton has been immersed in education since 2000 in both traditional and outdoor classroom settings. Her innovative style caters to various learning preferences, keeping learners engaged. Brigitte specializes in the following:

Brigitte typically handles all aspects of a project and occasionally, will work with a team to get the job done. Projects can take anywhere from a few weeks to several months to complete depending on the scope. The ADDIE and SAM models are two approaches used to map out a project. Beyond Limits Education utilizes founder Brigitte Denton’s instructional design skills and experience in education, as well as partnerships with other organizations to create custom education programs that include a variety of topics. We offer educational opportunities for K-12 subjects, outdoor education, and urban and wilderness first aid, CPR, and rescue. We can teach in any classroom, whether sectioned off by four walls or outside in the elements. We bring a combination of teaching strategies to meet the needs of each student, including hands-on skills practice, inquiry-based learning, experiential-based learning, and lecture-based learning, to name a few. Ongoing feedback between students and teachers allows us to continue tailoring how we teach and cater to our students.

Layperson First Aid/CPR Training:

Covers first aid and CPR/AED at a basic level in an urban setting where emergency medical services are close by.

We have worked with Mammoth and June Mountain Ski Patrols since 2016. This is one of our most dynamic and complex programs, and it illustrates what we can do. We have designed a training program that meets the needs of all ski patrollers (approximately 75 employees), who have a range of experience and certifications (EMR, WFR, WEMT, OEC, EMT, Paramedic), and cycle in and out of the job. To meet their needs, we provide ongoing training that meets and often exceeds certification requirements for EMR, EMT, WFR, WEMS, and Paramedics, resulting in good patient outcomes. Here is how it works:

  • Fall Annual Training

    • 4-5 Day Refresher: Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers, patient assessment, and other medical and trauma topics are covered. Training is provided using the equipment patrollers use on the job. EMTs and Paramedics are provided CEUs. Over the course of two years, training hours exceed the number requirement for EMR, BLS for HCP, and CA State EMT certifications. EMTs and Paramedics are provided with CA State-approved CEUs that can be applied to the National Registry CEU requirements.

    • Patrollers are paid to be there, and training is covered by Mammoth Resorts.

  • New Hires

    • EMTs and Paramedics are provided CEUs for many aspects of “rookie training”.

    • Those with WFR and OEC certifications are transitioned into the EMR certification program.

    • Rookies are paid to be there, and training is covered by Mammoth Resorts.

  • Ongoing Training/Guest Speaker Seminars

    • On-hill field scenarios throughout the season are conducted.

    • Medical professionals (most volunteer their time) are brought in to do presentations.

    • EMTs and paramedics are provided CEUs to attend these trainings.

    • Hours are logged for EMRs.

    • Patrollers are either paid to attend or provided the opportunity for training on their own time.

    • Training is covered by Mammoth Resorts.

  • Skill Verification/Written Assessments for EMRs and EMTs

    • Skill Verification is completed at the annual refresher and during new-hire training for all patrollers. Instructors assess skills to the standards of the individual’s certification.

    • Written assessments are given at the annual refresher and new hire training and conducted online using our Learning Management System.

    • If an individual does not pass a particular skill or written assessment, we work with them until they have gained competency in that area.

    • Online assessment is completed on the patroller’s own time.

  • Certification Processing

    • EMR and BLS for HCP certifications are issued during the year, and an individual needs to renew if they have met all certification requirements within the two-year cycle.

    • EMT skill verification forms (CA State and National Registry) are provided during the year an individual needs to renew if they have met all skill verification requirements within the two-year cycle.

    • National Registry EMTs and Paramedics can affiliate with “Mammoth Mountain Ski Patrol” in the NREMT online system, where we enter CEU hours directly after each training session.

  • WFR/WEMS

    • Many patrollers need to maintain a WFR or WEMS for summer work. We provide additional training every two years specific to the wilderness medicine standards.

    • Training is paid for by the individuals needing to maintain this certification at a fraction of the cost of a standard recertification course and is completed on their own time.

  • Training with the equipment they use on the job is invaluable.

  • Before this program, maintaining certifications was a costly expense. Since the program’s inception, Mammoth Resorts has paid patrollers to attend most trainings, pays for the majority of training, and pays for EMR and BLS for HCP certifications and EMT/Paramedic CEUs. This has had a huge positive financial impact.

  • Although not paid for by the mountain, WFRs and WEMSs have an inexpensive and easier way to maintain their certification.
